94   ALBUM 2021 | IMPRESSIONS 2021 ©Bavarian State Parliament Photo Archive / Rolf Poss ©Malamoussis D e c e m b e r Bavarian Constitutional Order for Abba Naor On 8 December, the Bavarian State Parliament presented the Bavarian Constitutional Order for the very first time – with Abba Naor as its inau- gural recipient. For around 30 years now, Naor has devoted himself as a contemporary witness to promoting a culture of reconciliation, fostering German-Israeli exchange and pre- serving the memory of the Holo- caust. The original medal of honour was introduced on 1 December 1961 by Rudolf Hanauer, then-President of the Bavarian State Parliament. It publicly recognises citizens whose exceptional commitment to the common good embodies the values of the Bavarian Constitution. In 2021, it was awarded for the first time as the Bavarian Constitutional Order. N O V E M B E R Reading on 9 November On 9 November, the association Gegen Vergessen – Für Demokratie (“Against Forgetting – For Democ- racy”) organised a reading at the memorial stone marking the site of Munich’s former main synagogue on Herzog-Max-Straße. This year’s event remembered the Jewish men, women and children who, 80 years ago, were among the first large group deported from Munich to Kaunas, Lithuania, and murdered in the concentration camp there. Their names were read aloud to ensure they are never forgotten. Karl Freller was one of the readers.
