The Dachau Memori- al, the Bavarian Memorial Foundation and the Comité Inter- national de Dachau (CID) organised a virtual commemoration – with greetings and video messages from survivors, liberators and political representatives. The only face-to-face event was a wreath-laying at the International Memorial, attended by a small circle of dignitaries: Ilse Aigner (President of the Bavarian State Parliament), Joachim Herrmann (Bavarian State Minister of the Interior, Sport and Integration), Abba Naor (Vice Presi- dent of the CID), Dr Christoph Thonfeld (Deputy Director of the Dachau Memorial) and Karl Freller (Director of the Bavarian Memorial Foundation). In brief statements, speakers stressed the need to remember the victims of Nazi tyranny and the growing relevance of concentration camp memorial sites as places of learning and education. While personal encounters with survivors and their families were sadly not possible, the Dachau Memorial offered numer- ous digital events in German and English to ensure a dignified act of remembrance.
