The Bavarian Memorial Foundation helped make the German translation possible. The event was part of the accompanying programme for the 78th anniversary of the liberation of Dachau. Maximilian Lütgens from the Dachau Memorial joined a group of pupils from the Josef Effner Gymnasium in reading key passages from the biography. Judith Chanoch, co-author and widow of Uri Chan- och, was unable to attend for health reasons. However, the family was represented by their three children and two granddaughters. Judith’s daughters, Galia and Frida Chanoch, read out a message of thanks, as well as a very personal and moving message, on behalf of their mother. Uri Chanoch was born in Kaunas in 1928. He survived the Lithuanian ghetto, the Stutthof concentration camp and the Kaufering subcamp. During the evacuation of Kaufer- ing, he escaped to U.S. soldiers. His younger brother, Daniel (Danny) Chanoch, also survived the Holo- caust; the rest of his family died in concentration camps. In 1946, Uri Chanoch emigrated to Israel. He served for many years as Chairman of the Association of Survivors of the Dachau Subcamps and, from 2008, was a member of the Board of the Claims Conference.
