After joining the institution in 1997, he took on a staff position in 2017. His appoint- ment coincided with the first major redesign of the memorial between 1997 and 2003. In October 2015, he was presented with the “Archivist of the Year Award” in New York City, USA. The prize is presented annually by the non-profit Scone Foundation. Albert Knoll remains committed to the Bavarian Memorial Foundation and its work; he has been appointed to the Board of Trustees. M A Y New memorial plaques at Kaufering concentration camp cemeteries and gravesites On 12 May, two memorial plaques were ceremoniously unveiled at the Kaufering concentration camp ceme- teries and gravesites in the Hurlacher Heide. Created in cooperation with the European Holocaust Memorial Foundation and the municipality of Kaufering, the plaques provide in- formation on the subcamp, the pris- oners and the concentration camp cemetery. They were installed at two of the largest of the 14 gravesites be- longing to the Landsberg/Kaufering subcamp complex.
