The former cinema has been transformed into a scenographic installation within the camp laundry, where wall-sized screens immerse visitors in the testimonies of survivors, providing insight into life in the camp, hunger, violence and death. 44 interviews offer an in-depth view of life under constant threat. S E P T E M B E R Book presentation: Healing Herb Cultures and Seeds of Violence On 30 September, Dr Anne Sudrow presented her two-volume study, Heil Kräuter Kulturen ( Healing Herb Cultures, with “Heil” also meaning “Hail”, a play on words) and Saat der Gewalt (Seeds of Violence), com- missioned by the Dachau Memorial, to an interested audience at the memorial site. Her work explores the history of the SS experimental gardens located east of the Dachau concentration camp, which were euphemistically referred to as a “herb garden”. Those who were forced into hard labour or slave labour called it the “planta- tion,” a term that reflects the brutal reality of their work. Many of them died there or were murdered. The SS-managed site was mainly used for National Socialist medical and nutritional experiments and the production of pharmaceutical and luxury products.
