Gebhardt ©Dachau Memorial / Guido Hassel A multi-day supporting programme started on 29 April 2025 with the unveiling of a memorial plaque dedicated to the 45th Division of the 7th U.S. Army. Throughout the commem- orations, the “Meeting Hub Tent” offered opportunities for exchange and personal encounters, including the inaugural “Forum of Descendants”. Thematic guided tours provided visitors with insights into the liberation that had taken place 80 years earlier. The commemorations opened with a Polish-German memorial service marking the 80th anniversary of the liberation. This was attended by approximately 1,400 worshippers, includ- ing ten bishops from Poland and Germany and more than 50 priests. The event was organised by the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising and the German Bishops’ Conference in cooperation with the Polish Bishops’ Conference.
