Looking back. Looking ahead. 2020-2025
218 SPEECHES | INSTITUTIONS Institutions current challenges we face today in dealing with memory as it is mediated through visual media. At the same time, it shows where the Dachau Memorial stands today and the significance it holds – almost 80 years after the liberation of the survivors. In closing, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks – especially to Clemens vonWedemeyer, Maya Schweizer and Benjamin Meyer-Krahmer, who created this film using many previously unpublished photographs and sources, in close collaboration with the Dachau Memorial. They invested great dedication and personal commitment into its conception and realisation. Thank you for all your work! My thanks also go to Dr Stefanie Pilzweger-Steiner, Academic Associate at the Dachau Memorial, for her expertise and enriching collaboration as co-leader of the research team. It was a real pleasure to work with you! This film project was supported by a number of institutions, with funding provided by the Bavarian Memorial Foundation, the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media, the Bavarian State Ministry of Education and Culture and the Comité International de Dachau (CID), which also provided invaluable moral support. After the screening, we will discuss how the film came into being. Gerd Modert, Head of Memorial Work at the Dachauer Forum educational centre and historian at the Allianz Corpo- rate Archives, will host a panel with the film-makers them- selves. We look forward to a lively discussion afterwards. Thank you for listening!
