Looking back. Looking ahead. 2020-2025
ACT OF REMEMBRANCE AT DACHAU PALACE | ALBUM 2025 19 J A N U A R Y Act of remembrance at Dachau On 23 January 2025, the Bavarian Memorial Foundation and the Bavarian State Parliament came together to remember the victims of National Socialism, marking 80 years since the liberation of Dachau. The commemoration focused on the immediate post-war years, the survivors’ struggle to rebuild their lives and the often lifelong impact of the trauma they had endured. Dachau Palace provided a fitting setting, having already hosted commemorative events in 1945 dedicated to the victims and survivors of the camp. Speakers included Karl Freller (Director of the Bavarian Memo- rial Foundation), Ilse Aigner (President of the Bavarian State Parliament), Dr Markus Söder (Minister-President of Bavaria), Florian Hartmann (Mayor of Dachau) and David Husarek (grandson of survivor Dr Paul Husarek). Many prominent figures from society, politics and the church were in attend- ance, including Dr Josef Schuster (President of the Central Council of Jews in Germany) and Erich Schneeberger (Chair- man of the Bavarian Regional Association of German Sinti and Roma). The event was broadcast live on Bavarian television. Before the commemoration was held at the palace, a wreath had been laid at the International Memorial in Dachau in the presence of Holocaust survivors Dr h.c. Charlotte Knobloch, Dr Eva Umlauf, Abba Naor and Ernst Grube.
