The exhibition reflected on the lasting impact of the site on people and society. 2 0 2 5 ‘The Disavowed’ Victims of National Socialism 1933 – 1945 – Today 20 March – 14 September 2025 This exhibition dealt with those who were persecuted under Nation- al Socialism as “asocials” and “career criminals”. Their experiences were at the forefront. Between 1933 and 1945, the German authorities and police acted on prejudices inherent in society. They subjected people to surveillance and harassment and robbed tens of thousands of their freedom. Many were murdered. Even after the war,West Germany, East Germany and Austria refused to award the victims compensation. Politicians and society denied recog- nition of the suffering and injustice they had endured. It was not until 2020 that the German Bundestag resolved to recognise them as victims of National Socialism.
