104   ALBUM 2020 | FLOSSENBÜRG MEMORIAL 2020 Pandemic forces cancellation of commemorative events The major acts of remembrance planned for the 75th anni- versary of the liberation of Dachau (3 May) and Flossenbürg (26 April) had to be cancelled in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. More than 100 survivors and liberators had confirmed their attendance. The main reason for this decision was to ensure the health and safety of all participants – especially the elderly contemporary witnesses. Both memorial sites were quick to offer digital alternatives: Dachau posted video greetings from politicians and written messages from around 30 survivors, while Flossenbürg launched a dedicated website featuring text, audio and video messages.
